Budget habits
Keep a Simple Travel Spending Log
Choose a tracking method you will actually maintain: a phone note, a small spreadsheet or a paper page. Complexity can make the habit harder to keep.
Start with the practical details
Use a few stable categories and update them once a day. Photograph receipts only when they help with a return, shared expense or reimbursement.
Make the plan flexible
For shared costs, record who paid and what the amount covered at the time. Agree on how to settle balances before the trip begins.
Try this on your next trip
Avoid storing full payment-card details in a spending log. A merchant name and amount are usually enough to recognize a purchase later.
A quick planning exercise
Before committing, write down one priority, one constraint and one fallback. The priority tells you what matters most; the constraint might be available time, energy or space. The fallback gives you a workable choice if the first plan becomes inconvenient. Keep the note short enough to use during the trip.
Afterward, record one adjustment you would make next time. Use your own experience to refine the plan instead of assuming every trip needs the same routine.
